She was born in Roswell on March 29, 1985. Gerina Michelle Mendoza was her given name. Gerina Stevenson, the Mexican son from Rita Stevenson Stevenson and Alan Stevenson Stevenson was birthed in Mexico. She is both Mexican as well as American. She has always been a fan of sports. Gerina began playing golf around the age of 15. Gerina attended Goddard High School for her high school education. In high school she won the state championship golf tournament in New Mexico. Apart from her volleyball game, she participated on a state-level. In the year 2003 she enrolled at The University of Texas. The school won every one of the events she took part in throughout her senior years. During the undergraduate year, she received Conference USA's individual player of year, as well as UTEP's Female Athletic Champion of Year.
